How long does the TBU take?

The TBU is 50 miles long, so it’s approximately a double marathon. The event takes place at night running along the Thames Path with short sections away from the path as signposted. You will crisscross the river approximately 24 times during the event climbing and descending numerous steps.

We anticipate finish times to be between 9hrs and the cut-off time of 15hrs.

Where and when does it take place?

Saturday night 30th November 2024 9pm.

The TBU starts in front of The Royal Arsenal Woolwich Pier where you will see sixteen hollow cast-iron figures by the sculptor, Peter Burke. The closest transport links are Royal Arsenal Woolwich Pier (River Bus) or Woolwich Arsenal DLR (Beresford Square exit), the walk from the DLR station takes 5 mins. Exit the DLR station at the corner of Powis St & Beresford Square, turn right heading for No1 St. You will pass a public WC on your left, cross the main road (A206) and head straight down No 1 St towards the pier. You will pass a large pub on your right called The Dial Arch (last available WC here before the start line). If you are travelling by car head for the Heritage Centre Car Park (pay and display), it is signposted from the A206. It’s very close to the start.

What do I need?

The TBU is self supporting, you are responsible for your own safety at all times. Carry a fully-charged mobile phone in case of emergencies. You must have sufficient clothing, safety equipment, food and water to complete the event. Weather can be unpredictable so you will need a suitable backpack to carry a change of clothes including waterproofs and a minimum of one litre of fluid. There are 24hr stores a short distance from the route and 2 x 24hr garages (very close together) on the route at Vauxhall & Pimlico (see map provided at registration). Drop bags can be accessed at the only official feed station at the 33 mile mark as you pass Richmond for the first time.

What about a finish bag?

We will transport one bag from the start to the finish, don’t leave valuables in the bag as we cannot accept any liability for loss or damage

Safety & Rules

You are responsible for your own safety. Before your registration is confirmed you will have to complete the event disclaimer (this will be sent separately).

During the event you must abide by local bylaws and road safety rules. The Thames Path is generally well lit through the city, however you will need a good head torch or hand torch as much of the route can be very dark with rough terrain underfoot. We encourage people to run in small groups. A right of way and consideration must always be given to pedestrians.

What if I am unwell or cannot finish the course?

If you need to retire or feel unwell you must inform the event organiser immediately. It is your responsibility to make necessary arrangements to get home or call for medical help. Your finish bag will be kept safe at the finish with the race organiser.

Cost and Registration.

The event is not-for-profit, registration is £50 to cover support expenses. Any excess will go to Women’s Aid a grassroots charity providing life-saving services in England and building a future where domestic abuse is not tolerated.

Registration will open 1st September 2024
